After 78 Years, Electricity Reaches Varsawadi
Villagers Celebrate Historic Moment.
Even after 78 years of India’s independence, Varsawadi, a hamlet under Fugale Gram Panchayat in Shahapur taluka, had never experienced electricity. For three generations, residents lived in darkness. On September 18, 2025, that changed — electricity was supplied to the hamlet for the first time.
The milestone came after continuous efforts by Shramajeevi Sanghatana, along with the Tribal Development Project Office and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (Mahavitaran). Villagers celebrated with bursting firecrackers, and many had tears of joy. “Darkness has finally ended. Our children can now study and the village will progress,” said local resident Rama Aghan.
Shramajeevi Sanghatana had first visited Varsawadi in 2020 and witnessed the struggles caused by lack of power — children unable to study at night, fear after dark, and no electricity for farming or household needs. Taking serious note, activists began regular follow-ups with government departments. Their persistent efforts, supported by Shahapur taluka office-bearers and guided by social activist Vivek Pandit, finally brought success.
On the inauguration day, villagers expressed heartfelt gratitude to Shramajeevi Sanghatana, the Tribal Development Project, Mahavitaran, the Forest Department, and the Gram Panchayat. For Varsawadi, September 18 marked the dawn of a brighter future.
