77 high risk and 4226 dangerous buildings in Thane: Thane Municipal Corporation

Dangerous buildings have collapsed in the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) area during the monsoons and deaths have been reported in the last few years. Therefore, the municipal administration conducts a survey of buildings in the city every year to prevent such possible building accidents. The ward committee conducts a survey and through it the list of high risk and dangerous buildings is announced by the administration. The TMC has announced a list of dangerous buildings in the city. The TMC has declared 77 buildings as high-risk and 4226 buildings as dangerous.

Classification of buildings

The buildings are classified into four phases namely C-1, C-2A, C-2B and C-3. C-1 means uninhabitable and most dangerous building that needs to be evacuated immediately, C-2A means structural repair by evacuating the building, C-2B means structural repair without vacating the building and C-3 means minor repair of buildings.
