Undefeated India Women’s U19 (B) win the T20 Triangular Series
India Women’s U19 (B) won five matches in a row to clinch the T20 Triangular Series that featured India Women’s U19 (A) and South Africa Women’s U19. The Niki Prasad-led side achieved this stellar feat on Thursday in Pune as they beat South Africa Women’s U19 by eight wickets and 11 balls to spare.
Chasing 143, India Women’s U19 (B) overhauled the target in 18.1 overs at the loss of one wicket. The wicket-keeper and opening batter G Kamalini carried forward her splendid form into the final as she muscled an unbeaten 79 off 62, smashing 13 fours and a six. The 16-year-old stitched a match winning partnership of 102 runs with her skipper Niki Prasad (49 not out). Despite losing two early wickets, Kamalini and Prasad ensured that there were no further hiccups in the run chase.
Early in the day, the visitors piled up a challenging score of 142/5 in 20 overs. Captain Kayla Reyeneke top scored with 37 after the opening pair of Simone Lourens (33) and Jemma Botha (34) provided a solid start. The duo put together 56 runs in 7.5 overs. However, after a good start, the tourists could not capitalise on it and were restricted to below 150. Vaishnavi Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for hosts as she snapped two wickets conceding 16 runs in three overs.
