Shiv Sena MLA requests for Lata Mangeshkar music academy in Thane
Pratap Sarnaik, Shiv Sena MLA from Thane, wrote to mayor Naresh Mhaske, requesting to allocate funds in the budget for constructing a state-of-the-art music academy and museum in memory of legendary singer and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away on February 6. Sarnaik wrote the letter a week after Mangeshkar’s demise.
It is known that an amenity plot has been recently handed over to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) which can be used for developing a music school. A public gallery highlighting several unknown facets from the life of the legendary singer could also be developed alongside, suggested Sarnaik. The plot is 1,700 square meter big and is located in the heart of the city. According to Sarnaik, the initial plan was to develop an electric crematorium in that plot, however, that plan was shelved.
