Transport Minister Announces Changes for Students’ Safety
To ensure safer and more comfortable travel for students using school buses, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced plans to update the current transport rules. A meeting with school vehicle associations was held to discuss the issues. Currently, around 40,000 registered school buses are in service, but 50,000–60,000 unregistered ones are also operating. The revised rules will cover driver qualifications, vehicle safety standards, and strict penalties for violations. The focus is on protecting students’ lives and improving transport facilities. Sarnaik emphasized that changes will be made without compromising vehicle operations.
