Mumbai beat Delhi in Super Over to advance to the semi-final of Senior Women’s One Day Trophy
100 overs were not enough to decide the winner between Mumbai and Delhi on Tuesday in the quarter final of the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy. Both teams scored 321 runs apiece, which pushed the match to a Super Over. In the Super Over, Mumbai chased 18 runs on the last ball and marched to the semi-final in the most dramatic style.
Batting first, Vrushali Bhagat’s magnificent 134 propelled Mumbai to a challenging score of 321 in 50 overs. Besides, Riya Chaudhari (32), captain Humairaa Kaazi (41), Ira Jadhav (33), Simran Shaikh (24), Sayali Satghare (18), and Manali Dakshini (23 not out) chipped in with useful contributions with the bat. For Delhi, all the six bowlers used snapped one wicket each.
In reply, Delhi lost their first three wickets inside 13 overs with just 68 runs on board. Later, captain Laxmi Yadav (92) and Ayushi Soni (97 not out) put their heads down and bailed their team out with a 156-run partnership. After the departure of their skipper, Nazma Sultana muscled 62 off 41 to keep the hopes alive. In the end, the scores were levelled and the match went down to Super Over. For Mumbai, with the ball, Satghare, Dakshini and Soumya Singh scalped one wicket each.
Delhi batted first in the Super Over. Nazma was accompanied by Shweta Sehrawat, who scored run a ball 19. The duo put together 17 runs in the over bowled by Satghare. Mumbai opted for Kaazi and Shaikh to complete the task. Off Nazma’s bowling, the latter hammered 22 runs off five balls to steer her side to the semi-final.
Mumbai will take on Madhya Pradesh in the semi-final on Friday at Niranjan Shah Stadium, Ground C, Rajkot.
