Fifth and Sixth railway line launched between Thane and Diva
After a wait for more than a decade, the local train passengers on Central Railway (CR) can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the fifth and sixth railway line between Thane and Diva, was commissioned on February 8. The commissioning of the fifth and sixth railway line means that CR can launch 80-100 additional local train services by the end of this year. Increased local train services will reduce the crowding in the trains that go from CST to Kalyan/Karjat/Kasara and vice-versa, which has been a grave problem for many years. The new railway lines will see both suburban and outstation trains operating on it. This will improve punctuality of trains and avoid any kind of clashes.
Prior to the launch of fifth and sixth railway lines, the suburban local and mail trains were on the same fast corridor and in case of a loco failure or chain pulling in outstation trains, the suburban local trains were also impacted. With the new lines in place now, this will not happen anymore.
Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) had undertaken the construction of the commissioning project and with the help of 1000 workers, completed the project on the morning of February 8, after a 72-hour mega block that started from Saturday morning to Tuesday (February 8) morning. The CR is also planning new air-conditioned (AC) and non-AC trains. Around 32 additional train services are likely to be introduced by the end of this month.
Though the passengers will seek the benefits of the new railway lines in the coming days, they will however have to face commuting woes for sometime as services are expected to be delayed by up to 15 minutes because of the speed restrictions imposed across the new railway line as precautionary measure.
